Abstract

[Also in Division F1] Overhead cam-shafts 1, 2 are driven by sprockets 13, 14 thereon engaging the outside of a chain 10 passing round a toothless idler 11 and driving sprocket 9 on a crank-shaft 8. The idler 11 may be cylindrical or crowned or channel-shaped in cross-section. Alternatively, a toothed belt may be employed and it may pass over two idlers, be toothed only on its outer face, and be driven by a toothed member engaging the outside of the belt. Preferably the periphery of the idler is made of neoprene.
