Abstract

1,141,699. Tensioning conveyer chains. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. 16 June, 1967 [11 Aug., 1966], No. 27815/67. Heading F2G. A holding device for use when joining up conveying chains by anchoring one end of the chain near a drive sprocket, passing the other end of the chain over the drive sprocket, holding the chain in the vicinity of the sprocket and then joining the chain, comprises a cross-member 10 adapted to be mounted on the sprocket drive frame 12 and one or more pawls pivoted on the cross-member and adapted to engage the chain where the chain passes over the sprocket-wheel. As shown, pins 14 pass through coupling eyes 11, 13 on the member 10 and frame 12 respectively which pins also secure pairs of blocking pawls 15, 16 carrying downwardly directed dogs 17, 18 for engaging in links of the chain or between the teeth of the sprocket-wheel, the dogs being offset by a distance equal to one half the chain pitch, whereby the chain need be stretched only by that distance. In a modification, for a single chain conveyer, a dog is mounted in the middle of the cross-member.
