Abstract

A gearbox at the drive end of the saw contains bevel gears with two concentric output spindles driving a pair of chain-wheels in opposite directions for a pair of side by side chains supported and guided by a hollow rectangular section beam extending away from the drive end, and carrying suitable chain guards. The links of the chain are further protected along their support sides by grooves inset in the top and bottom faces of the beam and by plates screwed onto the side faces of the beam and projecting upwards from it.
