Abstract

1,263,669. Driving endless chain conveyers. GOUGH & CO. (HANLEY) Ltd. 10 April, 1970, No. 17173/70. Heading B8A. A conveyer having an endless conveyer chain 6 constrained to follow a conveyer run by means of rails 8 bearing on rollers 22 carried by the links of the chain, and a conveyer drive comprising a worm gear 24 rotatable about an axis parallel to and adjacent a straight run of the conveyer so that the threads of the worm gear engage a plurality of the guide rollers 22 carried by the chain. In a modification (not shown) two worm gears are provided, on opposite sides of the chain. The rails 8 are formed from channelmembers arranged in a cruciform cross-section. The conveyer, which may be of the kind described in Specification 1,139,490, is mounted in jointed tubular sections of the kind shown at 2 and 4. There may be an oil bath beneath the gear 24.
