A protective system, e.g. for a semi-conductor rectifier installation, comprises a plurality of switching circuits S1 . . . S6 connected in common to relays Re1, Re2 which are arranged so that the completion of a first switching circuit causes the operation of relay Re1 to operate a first indicator, and the completion of two or more switching circuits causes the operation of relay Re2 to operate a further indicator or a protective device. Each switching circuit comprises a resistor in series with a switch operated by a striker pin fuse.
