Abstract
932,109. Supervising unattended repeaters. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. April 12, 1961, No. 13223/61. Addition to 914,788. Class 40 (4). In a carrier telecommunication system of the kind described in the parent Specification, some of the repeaters contain rectifiers in series with the resistors across the supervisory leads. A fault in the line between two repeaters e.g. AP1, AP2 causes relays B, C, D to drop out and thus causes contacts B2 to introduce a resistor RB2 of characteristic value and rectifier MR1 across supervisory leads B, D. A meter M1 is calibrated so that the approximate position of the fault can be read off directly but in order to localise it more exactly reversing switches RS1 and RS2 in the terminal station BN are operated manually and consequently the meter will now read zero since the rectifier is non-conducting in the reverse direction. If the fault had occurred between repeaters AP2, AP3 then reversal of the supervisory current would produce no change on the meter.
