Abstract
749,998. Party-line systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 12, 1953 [Aug. 12, 1952], No. 20287/52. Class 40 (4). On an eight-party-line, Fig. 1, a particular substation is selectively called by the application of a relatively high potential of a particular polarity to a particular line wire together with the application of an alternating potential to one or other line wire, causing the firing of gas tubes G and the operation of relays A at two substations and the ringing of bell B at one of them. On a sixteen-party-line, Fig. 2 (only eight parties being shown), each substation has an additional relay B and the additional calling condition consists of a relatively low potential of selected polarity applied to that line wire which is not carrying the relatively high potential. The removal of the relatively high calling potential leaves the ringing circuits at all the substations in a non-conducting condition.
