Abstract

769,617. Electric selective signalling systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 1, 1955, No. 9537/55. Class 40 (1). In equipment for indicating whether, in a multi-stage electronic register, the number of stages in one of two alternative states differs from a given number, the stages are connected to a set of gates connected in groups to gates of a second set, such that one and only one gate of the second set is operable when the given number of stages of the register is in the one state, and a detector is operable when the number of operated gates of the second set differs from one. As shown, a register PR has 5 stages comprising e.g. electronic valves 2 of which should be fired. Adjacent stages are connected in pairs to coincidence gates GA1- GA5, and non-adjacent stages to a similar group of gates GA6-GA10. The outputs of the groups are connected via further gates GB1, GB2 to bistable trigger devices BS1, BS2. If more than 2 valves are fired, both gates GB1, GB2 will be operative and both devices BS1, BS2 will be set to the " 1 " state ; and if less than 2 valves are fired, the trigger devices will both remain in the " 0 " state. A " check " pulse will then be allowed through gate GD or GC and will set an " alarm " trigger device AL via gate GE. Similar circuits for other registers may be connected to points P1, P2. A generalized circuit (Fig. 1, not shown), is described in which the check pulse is applied to GE. In an alternative form, the gates GA are threshold-1 gates and gates GB coincidence gates. The gate connections for both forms are given for the 2-out-of-5 arrangement shown, for 2 out of 6 and for 3 out of 7.
