Abstract
A zinc base alloy, for working to form wrought particles such as tubing, rods, strips, wire, sheet, nails, gutters, downspouts or corrugated roofing, consists of:- .Cu.0.5 to 2% .Ti.0.1 to 0.4% .Mg.0.03 to 0.2%, .optionally Cr.0.005 to 0.2%, .and Zn.as balance The wrought article may be heat treated at 150-325 DEG C. after hot-rolling and prior to cold rolling e.g. to a reduction of at least 30%. The cold rolled article may be additionally heated to 75-125 DEG C. The alloy may be produced by adding a Zn-Cu master alloy to a zinc melt of at least 99.9% purity, then adding the required Mg with the melt at 500 DEG C., then sponge Ti including any optional Cr with the melt riased to 750 DEG C., the alloying being carried out under an inert gas e.g. argon.
