Abstract

1,040,598. Laminates. LANTOR Ltd. Feb. 5, 1965 [Nov. 5, 1963], No. 43535/63. Heading B5N. Patterns or designs are produced on non- woven needle-punched fabrics by applying coloured material in the desired pattern to a web of fibres, applying a second web, one or both of the webs being of a colour different from that of the coloured material, and needle-punching the layers until the coloured material is visible, or the visibility is increased, on the surface of one of the webs. The coloured material may be coloured fibres which may be in the form of strips and which may be needle-punched to a backing of scrim of polythene or other film, or may be a dye or colour, e.g. applied by printing. One or more of the webs may be backed by needle-punching to scrim. The fibrous materials used may be bonded by adhesive. In Examples (1) a pattern was screen printed in red on a web of " Acrilan " (Trade Mark) fibres needlepunched to a nylon scrim fabric, and similar webs were needle-punched to both sides thereof; the combined webs were then further needlepunched and both faces slightly raised to produce a blanket material having a visible surface pattern; (2) a web as in (1), needle-punched and bonded with an acrylic resin, was screenprinted in colour and needle punched on both sides to a similar web, the product being further needle punched and slightly raised on both faces; (3) a web of red rayon fibres was cut into diamond shapes which were laid on a white web of fibres backed by scrim; similar white webs were then needle-punched to both sides of the patterned material and the product was further needle-punched and raised on its surfaces.
