Abstract
1,039,426. Turbines. PRVNI BRNENSKA STROJIRNA, ZAVODY KLEMENTA GOTTWALDA, NARODNI PODNIK. March 29, 1965, No. 13135/65. Heading F1C and FIT. A pump delivering oil through two outlets at different pressures comprises an axial-flow firststage impeller 2 drawing from an inlet pipe 1 and delivering partly to a delivery volute 3 and partly to a centrifugal second stage impeller 4 which delivers to a delivery volute 5. Volute 3 supplies oil to the bearings of a steam turbine driving the pump while volute 5 supplies oil at a higher pressure to the governor of the turbine. The axial thrust developed by the pump is used to help balance the axial thrust of the turbine. For this purpose, the magnitude and direction of the thrust can be varied by varying the pressure in the space behind the impeller 4, between the shaft and a seal at the back of the impeller, by means of an adjustable valve 6. Ports 7 may be provided to reduce the pressure on the front face of the impeller 4 and thereby increase the thrust.
