Abstract
1,038,396. Catamenial appliances. R. V. MATHISON. Sept. 14, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963], No. 37464/64. Heading A5R. [Also in Division E2] A buckle comprises a pair of spaced side bars 22, 24, Fig. 3, connected together by a cross bar 26 and by an additional cross bar 28 having on one face thereof spaced protuberances 36 extending obliquely outwardly from that face. As shown, in which the buckle may be wholly of a plastics material and includes a split bar 30, 32, the protuberances may be shaped as truncated, oblique triangular prisms, oblique conical projections oblique frusto-conical projections, oblique pyramidal projections or as frusto-pyramidal projections, Figs. 14-18 (not shown). The buckle is used to fasten one end 18 of a sanitary napkin to a crotch seam 14 of a panty 12, Fig. 2,the end 18 passing over the protuberances 36 which penetrate the material of the napkin in the fastened position thereof. The buckle is attached to the seam 14 by stitching 25, or by stitching 27, 29 Fig. 8 (not shown) or by notches in the side bars engaging permanent loops on the seam 14, Fig. 7 (not shown). In another application, Figs. 9-11 (not shown) the buckle is used to attach the ends of a sanitary napkin to an elastic support belt. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the buckle is used to secure a strip 86 Fig. 13 (not shown), protuberances 87 being inclined outwardly against the direction of pull on the end portion 88 when tension is applied to the strip 86. The protruberances may be arranged in a single or in multiple rows and may be directed in the same or in different directions.
