Abstract

1,103,471. Releasable fastenings. SELECTUS Ltd. 14, April, 1966 [2, March, 1965], No. 8970/65. Heading E2A. A combination comprises a pair of members 3, 5 each having a surface provided with upstanding filamentary elements, the elements of one member being releasably engageable with the elements of the other relative member and a device 1 arranged to engage the members with the surfaces overlapped so as to hold the members against movement in directions other than the direction in which the elements of a maximum resistance to separation. In the construction shown the upstanding element of one member are hooks constructed in accordance with Specification 721338 and the elements of the other member are loops with which the hooks are engageable. The device 1 is a sleeve which is slidable on one member and which is prevented from release from the member by a metal rod attached to the member which has enlarged end portions 6. One end portion of the sleeve is flared for ease of engagement with the other member. Instead of the elements being hooks and loops they can be elements having ball shaped ends or threads or bristles; the elements can be formed directly on the surface of each member or as shown can have fabric bases 2, 4 which are attached to the members. As shown each member is the end portion of a belt and the element can extend over its length. Instead of the members being held together by a sleeve they can be held together by a pair of plate-like members hinged together and spring urged to engage the members in which case one of the plate like members is secured to one of the members.
