Abstract

1,038,029. Dispersing colour couplers &c. PAVELLE Ltd. Oct. 21, 1964 [Oct. 28, 1963], No.42404/63. Heading G2C. Dispersion of colour couplers, antifoggants, antioxidants sensitizers and dyes in aqueous colloid photographic dispersion media are prepared by dissolving the said couplers &c. in tetrahydrothiophene-1, 1-dioxide (or an alkyl derivative thereof) and dispersing the solution thereby obtained in the aqueous photographic dispersion medium in the presence of a wetting agent. Specified components which are dispersed are colour couplers:- (N- octadecyl 7-1-hydroxy-2-naphthoamide, 1-(pnitrophenyl)-3-heptadecyl-5-pyrazolone and 2(N- methyl-N-octadecyl-amino)-4<SP>1</SP>-methoxy benzoylacetanilide;antifoggants:- benzotriazole and 6- nitro-benzimidazole;antioxidants:- 2-lauroylhydroquinone and 2, 5-di tert. butyl hydroquinone); U.V.filter absorbers:- 2, 2<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxy-4, 4<SP>1</SP>-dimethoxybenzophenone and aryl (e.g.phenyl)-substituted hydroxyphenyl benzotriazoles and optical sensitizers:- 3, 3<SP>1</SP>-diethyl-9-ethyl-6, 6<SP>1</SP>-diphenyloxacarbocyanine and 3,3<SP>1</SP>-diethyl-10-chloro-thiadicarbocyanine iodide. Specified wetting agents are cyclohexylamine lauryl sulphate, benzylamine lauryl sulphate, polyglycol monolaurate and cetyl pyridinium bromide. Additional solvents may be used with the tetrahydrothiophene-1,1-dioxide e.g. alcohols, ketones and hydrocarbons and the colloid dispersion medium which may contain silver halide, may be gelatin, carboxy methyl cellulose or polyvinyl pyrrolidone.
