Abstract
1,216,411. 411. Photographic dye-developers. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORP. Jan.24, 1968, No.3814/68. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C4] Photographic dye-developers for use in the dye-developer process comprise a metal complexed dye compound having bonded to the metal complexing atom by at least one co-ordinating atom a compound of the formula wherein Y is a radical comprising a silver halide developing substituent or a radical which on hydrolysis yields the same and Z is a substantially colourless liquid radical containing at least one co-ordinating atom for forming a metal complex. The composition may optionally contain a silver halide auxiliary developing agent which is substantially colourless at least in its oxidized form. Preferred dye compounds are those of the formula wherein -O-A-N=N-B-O- is the radical of an O, O<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxyazodye of the formula wherein A is an aromatic radical, B is an aromatic or heterocyclic radical and Y is as defined above as Z<SP>1</SP> is a substantially colourless bi-dentate liquid radical. The dye-developers may be used in aqueous alkaline solution as ordinary developers for exposed silver halide materials to obtain black- and-white or toned silver images.
