Abstract

547,975. Photographic processing solutions. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Jan. 17, 1941, No. 646. [Class 98 (ii)] A photographic silver oxidizing bath includes, in addition to the silver oxidizing agent, a monohydroxy alcohol or an aliphatic ketone. Metallic silver may be converted into a silver salt in an emulsion in which a dye image has been formed from a dye, dye-derivative, or dye-forming substance, such as a colour coupler, present in the emulsion in association with a water-insoluble water-permeable substance by subjecting the emulsion to the action of a silver-removing bath containing an oxidizing agent and a watermiscible organic solvent for the water-insoluble water-permeable substance. The silver salt produced may be removed in a fixing bath, which may contain an organic solvent of the kind specified. The oxidizing bath may also contain the fixing agent. The organic solvent may be benzyl alcohol, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, #- phenylethyl alcohol, α-phenyl-n-propyl alcohol, - diethylaminoethyl alcohol, #- and α- diethylaminopropyl alcohol, furfuryl alcohol, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, and methyl ethyl ketone. Acetone may be used in an acid dichromate bleach bath. and benzyl alcohol in a potassium ferricyanide bleach bath. In example (1), the bleach bath contains chromic acid, hydrobromic acid, potassium bromide, acetone, and water, and in example (2) potassium ferricyanide, ammonium hydroxide, potassium bromide, benzyl alcohol, and water. Specifications 477,524, 503,752, 507,841, 524,154, 524,554, 524,555, 537,256, 540,366, 540,525, and 541,589 are referred to.
