1,138,087. Processing exposed photographic silver halide materials. CRITERION PLATES, PAPERS, FILMS Ltd. Sept. 29,1967 [Oct. 13,1966], No. 45712/66. Heading G2C. A photographic silver halide material containing a developing agent e.g. hydroquinone or chlorhydroquinone and having an antihalation backing layer containing manganese dioxide as pigment, is exposed and then processed by a two-bath method by (i) treating with an activator solution containing e.g. sodium hydroxide, sodium sulphite and potassium bromide to develop the image and (ii) treating with a stabilizing solution containing an acid and a sulphite to stabilize the image and to decolourize the manganese dioxide. The stabilizing solution may contain ammonium thiocyanate, ammonium chloride, sodium sulphite, ascorbic acid and acetic acid.
