Abstract

A fusible interlining is produced by applying a solution or dispersion of a polyamide to the surface of an interlining fabric in which the swelling value, defined as being the amount of water expressed as a percentage of the weight of the material, that the material will take up when wetted by water, of the polyamide is reduced by including in the solution or dispersion a substance capable of reducing this value. The solution or dispersion may also include a plasticizer for the polyamide. A solution of the polyamide may be sprayed on to the fabric as filaments through a nozzle under conditions such as to form a lacework of polyamide filaments on the surface of the fabric. Swelling reducing substances exemplified are aminoplast precondensates and silicone oils. The interlining fabric may be woven or nonwoven, for example, fibres bonded together by polyvinyl alcohol fibres which have been rendered insoluble by treatment with an amino-formaldehyde resin, or a fleece of polyamide and acetate fibres impregnated with a cross-linkable acrylate resin dispersion.
