Abstract

The filtration material of cigarette filter tips is composed, at least partly, of cellulose acetate with an "active" porous micro rugose surface. The "active" cellulose acetate may be in the form of filaments or fibres made as described in Specification 992,740, impregnated or coated on to one or both sides of a carrier matrix such as paper tissue or fabric, precipitated from a solution containing added fibrous material, of expanded cellulose acetate sheet, or of non-active cellulose acetate treated with a solvent or vapour thereof accompanied or followed by treatment with a precipitant. The sheet or mat of active cellulose is shredded and formed into filter tips with cigarette making machinery.
