319,364. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 22, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Waterproofing. - Fibrous materials such as textile fabrics, felts, felt hats, linings, straw plait, artificial silk, and the like are impregnated with a, solution of a polyvinyl ester. The treatment renders the material stiff, waterproof, and capable of being shaped and pressed at a, raised temperature.. A softening-agent may be added to the treating-solution. Examples are given of solutions of polyvinyl acetate in ethyl acetate: polyvinyl acetate and dibutyl phthalate in benzene; and polyvinyl-chloracetate in acetone.
