Abstract

1,035,892. Electrophotographic materials. RANK, XEROX Ltd. Jan. 17, 1964 [Jan. 18, 1963], No. 2207/64. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic plate has a layer of amorphous selenium and an interface layer of silver-selenium between this and a supporting substrate. Typically a base material such as aluminium may be provided with a thin silver coating by vacuum evaporation and amorphous selenium applied to this. The silver-selenium alloy layer is then formed by heating the plate for a short time at a temperature below 100‹ C. Alternatively, a silver-coated aluminium substrate may be held at 50‹ C. during the vacuum deposition of a selenium layer. The interface layer is intended to reduce the residual potential shown by the plate.
