Abstract
A photoconductive alloy layer comprises vitreous selenium alloyed with up to 1 wt. per cent As, the laying having a concentration gradient of As with up to 13 wt. per cent of As at one surface and decreasing amounts towards the other surface. The layer may contain Cl or I and may be coated on a support comprising a plate or foil of Al, brass, or steel, or paper, plastics or glass coated with Al, SnO, Cr or Cu 2 I 2 . The layer is made by vacuum deposition wherein first only Se is deposited and then increasing amounts of As.
