Abstract

1,222,737. Coated projectile. WERKZEUGMASCHINEN OBERLIKON-BUHRLE A.G. 22 Aug., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 40306/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C5 and F3] The core of a sabot projectile consisting, in whole or in part, of tungsten carbide is microfinish ground, degreased, and coated by spraying with a layer consisting of a mixture of 9.1% of molybdenum disulphide, 7.6% phenol resin, and 83.3% ethyl acetate. The layer which adheres to the surface of the core to a thickness of 1.5 to 2.0 x 10<SP>-3</SP>mm is then lightly polished, after which the core is heated and held at 80‹-100‹C for at least two minutes to evaporate the ethyl acetate and leave a dry lubrication film.
