Abstract

In the preparation of luminous urea-formaldehyde bodies where, after the initial reaction of the urea and the formaldehyde, acidification is effected by adding an anhydride in admixture with an alcohol and boiling off the alcohol in vacuo at a moderate temperature, the luminescent substances are introduced in powdery form after the initial reaction but before or during the boiling, whereby they are distributed regularly in the mass. The mass may be centrifuged to distribute the luminescent substances on the surface of the body. If easily destructible luminescent substances are employed, the grains thereof may be coated with a semi - liquid formaldehyde - urea condensate before their introduction into the mass.
