Abstract
1,031,353. Junction boxes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 15, 1963 [March 21, 1962], No. 10835/62. Heading H2E. A terminal box comprising a welded steel easing 1 having a front opening covered by plate 2, rear opening 3, a side opening connected to a distribution box 6, and a flange 4 for mounting it on high-power apparatus M, has a terminal enclosure, 11, of rigid insulating material, consisting of a base 12, a hollow section 13, and a cover 14. Connection between stud 7 and connector 8 by nut 9 is made inside enclosure 11, which has a side branch 15 for connector 8. Bolts 16 passing through cover 14 and section 13 into base 12 hold the assembly together. A head 23 on stud 7 engages the outer end of stem 18, so when nut 9 is tightened, disc 19 is clamped between shoulder 22 and base 12. Disc 19 may have a number of holes 41, closed with a diaphragm 42, of frangible material. If the box is required for multiphase use it is divided into compartments, one for each phase, by transverse partitions. The bottom of the casing is filled up to level L, with a sealing compound. In a second embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the hollow section has reduced end portions engaging an annular groove on the base, and the enclosure is housed in a two-part metal casing within the terminal box. For low fault energy systems a solid disc 19 can be used.
