Abstract

1,031,326. Valve bags. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1965 [March 6, 1964], No. 6138/65. Heading B8K. [Also in Division B1] A disposable paper dust bag for a vacuum cleaner comprises an end closure formed of two superposed sheets 14, 16, each having an elliptical or circular aperture part only of which is closed by a hinged flap 22, 24, the two sheets overlying each other with their apertures in registry (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), whereby the two flaps, while in the planes of their respective sheets, overlap each other to close the apertures completely. Fig. 2 shows sheets 14, 16 formed by folding a single piece of cardboard or plastics, with segmental portions 18, 20 cut out completely and flaps 22, 24 similarly cut through along lines 38, 40 and scored along lines 44, 46, 48. Lines 44, 46 are broken when the vacuum cleaner inlet (58) is pushed through the apertures (Figs. 5, 6, not shown), so that flaps 22, 24 respectively hinge about lines 36, 48 inwards of the bag (50). Score lines 36, 48 are made in the outer faces of the sheets 14, 16, and when the inlet (58) is withdrawn (Fig. 7, not shown), the elasticity of the material closes flaps 22, 24 again. In another embodiment (Figs. 8, 9, not shown) the flaps are of different sizes and the outer flap (22a) has a narrow tongue (30b) on its free edge, which bears on the other flap (24a) to reduce friction when flaps are closing. The paper bar (50) may be lined with layers of more porous material.
