PAPER Box.
amet.
Application filed March 11, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY C. KnssLnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warrington, county of Bucks, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in paper boxes formed from a folded blank.
An object of my invention is to provide a cover securing device which forms an ex.- tension of either the box or cover and which is arranged to frictionally hold the cover'in its closed position, as well as a reinforce for the box which will also assist in holding the cover in its closed position, when the extension is located on the cover.
Fig. l is a perspective view of one form of box made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the formed box with the ends open.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the cut blank.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the reinforce for the box body.
A blank such as shown in Fig. 3 is cut from a sheet of cardboard and then also out along lines 10, 11 and 12, and bentalong the lines 13 to 24 to form the various box body ,and cover elements, as well as the securing tabs and folds. The bottom faces of securing tabs 26 and 27 are gummed and secured to the inside (or upper face of the blank as viewed in Fig. 3) of the back 28 of the body and the back 29 of the cover respectively, the lines 2st coinciding with the upper edge of the blank. The bottom of the body is then formed by first folding laterally folds 30 and the bottom 31 and fold 32, the latter of which is tucked in between the sides 33 and along the front 34 of the body.
The top of the cover is closed in a similar manner by means of the folds 35, top 36 and fold 37, which are folded in relation to the sides 38 and front 39 of the cover.
The fold 37 is somewhat wider than the height of the cover so that the end thereof projects beyond the edge of the cover, as shown in Fig. 1, and is arranged to be tucked Specification of Letters Patent.

in between the sides along the front 34.
The body of the box is braced by partition members 40 and 41, which extend from one corner to a corner opposite thereto, and which are interlocked by forming a slot in each member for the reception of the other member. As these members extend at an angle to each other and the sides, as well as to the front and back, they form struts which act as braces for the body of the box, as well as divide the box into four compartments. These partitions are also seated in the corners at the front so they will be engaged by the edges of the extension 37 and assist in retaining the cover in its closed position by frictional engagement between the memers.
The back of the box is creased or scored along the line 42 between the back 28 of the body and the back 29 of the body, so that the cover can be thrown back, the material of the blank along the line 42 acting as a hinge.
The advantages of my invention result from the provision of a combined box and cover formed from asingle blank hinged to each other'and in which the bottom and top are closed by members bent upon each other, one of which functions as a friction member for retaining the cover closed, together with removable struts for the body which form partitions therefor as well as friction members for the extension when said extension extends from the cover.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. A box having a body and a cover formed from an integral folded paper blank, the back of the cover and the back of the body being formed of a continuous piece so as to form a hinge connection between said body and cover, foldable members for closing one end of the body, and foldable members for closing one end of the cover, one of the foldable members of the cover extending parallel with and beyond the front of the cover and arranged to be tucked in the body in back of the front forming member of the body when the cover is closed.
2. A box having a body and a cover formed from an integral folded paper blank,
33 of the box body and the back of the cover and the back of the body being formed'of a continuous piece so as to form a hinge connection between said body and cover, foldable members for c1os ing one end of the body, foldable members for closing one end of the cover, and diagonal struts engaging the corners of the body one of the foldable members for the cover closure
