Description
May 3, 1949. HAMBROCK MULTISECTIONED FOLDER Filed Ju ly 4, 1945 v IN VEN TOR.
Patented May 3, 1949 STATES PAT ENT OFFICE 2 Claims. 1
Thisd-nvention relates generally to handbags and more particularly to the construction of handbags having multiple folded sections.
Thetprincipal object of this invention is the tprovisionnof. ahandbag composed of a longitudian ly disposed. body having. aspluralityrof transiverset sections, provided with; pockets and which when folded produces a handbag of the face dimensions of one section.
Another object is the provision of a fiat body having pockets and divided into four sections which when folded twice at a mid-portion produces a handbag of the size of one section and closes the pocket openings with means for fastening together the extremities of the sections facing each other,
Other objects and advantages appear in the following description and claims.
A practical embodiment illustrating the principles of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the handbag when folded.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the front and one end of the handbag when folded.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the handbag showing the front or end section unfastened and thrown back.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view similar to Fig. 3 with the other end section raised.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the handbag completely opened and lying flat.
Referring to Fig,'5 of the drawings, it will be noted that the blank or body If! is made of overlying material and is relatively long and is divided transversely into four sections ll, l2, l3 and H! which are substantially equal in dimensions and extend for the full width of the body i l. The sections H and [4 are referred to as the end sections and the sections l2 and IS the intermediate sections. The body ill may be folded along the principal fold line 65 at its mid-position so that the faces l6 and I! of the intermediate sections l2 and I3 come together and may be fastened by the snaps l8 and I9. Each of the sections i2 and i3 is provided with pockets 20a. and Zia made with lining and sewed around three edges as indicated, the openings 28 and 2| of these pockets are adjacent to each other and are closed by the principal fold along 15. Additional snaps 22 may be provided near the fold IS on the faces 56 and I! to aid in maintaining the shape of the folded sections l2 and I3.
As shown in Fig. 4 the opposite face 23 of the section It is provided with a pocket 24a made with lining and sewed around three ledg-es as 1 indicated having ,the' opening 3 24 "which iseadda- -:cent to and: closed by the fo1d*between the-.Sec-
'Section: i=4 can'zbe folded along :2 5 in: either :direction. .Z'I'hus section l-3:. has a pocket -on 'each-,-side thereoL-one inithezface l1ial'1d one i-n the face 23, and the openings of these pockets face in opposite directions.
The under face 26 of the section I4 is provided with snaps 21 and 28 arranged to engage corresponding snaps on the face 23 of section l3 as shown in Fig. 4. Thus the pocket opening 24 is closed and sealed by folding the section l4 down and securing the snaps 21 and 28 as shown in Fig. 3.
The upper face 3f! of the section I4 is provided with the pocket 3la made with lining sewed around three edges thereof as indicated opening 3| adjacent the fold 25 and is also provided with the mirror 32 and the identification card case 33 which is secured to the mirror and is arranged to fold down over and cover the mirror to protect it.
The section II may be folded relative to the section 12 along the secondary fold line 34 in either direction. When folded back as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the handbag is open to provide access to the pockets through the openings 24 and 3| depending upon the position of section [4.
When the end section II is folded down over the end section M as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and fastened by means of the snaps 35 the handbag is closed and the pocket opening 3| in section I4 is sealed. The under face 36 of section ll becomes the front face of the handbag and is provided with an ornament or monogram 31 and the under face of the intermediate section H becomes the back of the handbag.
It is apparent that my improved handbag is of a capacity greater than any other handbag of similar dimensions and that its contents may be carried without danger of loss caused by accidental opening of the various pockets. At the same time my improved handbag is sightly and convenient to carry.
I claim:
1. A handbag consisting of a blank divided into quarter sections by a principal central fold line that folds the blank in half and two secondary fold lines that mate to fold the half into quarter sections, the quarter sections forming two intermediate and two end sections, pockets on one face in each of the two intermediate sections of the open blank with their mouths confronting each other adjacent the principal central fold and closed thereby, a third pocket on said one face of the blank in one of the end sections with its mouth open to the adjacent secondary fold and closed by the other secondary fold, a fastener on said one face of the blank detachably holding the intermediate sections together when the blank is folded in half, and a second fastener on said one face of the blank to detachably hold the end sections together.
2. A handbag consisting of a blank divided into quarter sections by a principal central fold line that folds the blank in half and two secondary fold lines that mate to fold the half into quarter sections, the quarter sections forming two intermediate and two end sections, pockets on one face in each of the two intermediate sections of the open blank with their mouths confronting each other adjacent the principal central fold and closed thereby, a third pocket on said one face of the blank in one of the end sections with its mouth open to the adjacent secondary fold and closed by the other secondary fold, a fastener on said one face of the blank detachably holding the intermediate sections together when the blank is folded in half, a second fastener on said one face of the blank to detachably hold the end REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
