Abstract

1,021,176. Cartons; plastics containers. POLYTHENE DRUMS Ltd. Nov. 19, 1964 [Nov. 28, 1963], No. 47103/63. Headings B8D and B8P. A cardboard or like material protective case formed from a blank, Fig. 1 (not shown), consists of base flaps, two side walls 13, 14, two end walls 5, 6, two inner flaps 16 and two outer closure flaps 3, 4 one of which has a perforated portion 31, 32 cut partly in it and partly in the end wall to which the flap is hinged such that when the case is closed this portion may be torn away to expose the liquid dispensing tap of an inner container. The perforated portion 32 is provided with a thumb hole 33. Finger holes 34, 35 are cut in the side walls of the case. The inner flaps 16 are folded back on themselves so that their ends 22 are wedged down the side of the container, and have slots 29 cut in them into which tongues 28 of a cardboard member 25 engage, a hole in the centre of the member supporting the neck of the container. Slots 11 cut in the outer closure flaps 3, 4 enable extensions 9, 10 to interlock with slots 23 cut in the inner flaps 16 thereby closing the case. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), additional perforations in one of the outer closure flaps 3 and in the adjacent end wall 5 allow a hand hold to be formed, two finger holes 41, 42 also being provided in the base of the case.
