Abstract

1,026,088. Valves. HERMANN RAPPOLD & CO. G.m.b.H. Dec. 10, 1963 [Dec. 12, 1962], No. 48812/63. Heading F2V. A valve closure plate for a stop valve of the type in which the plate is slidably mounted in a guide way in an apertured valve housing through which the fluid to be controlled by the valve passes, is formed with an internal cavity in which guide means is so disposed as to provide a tortuous path for the flow of cooling water, and the portions of the flow path for downwardly flowing water are wider than those for upwardly flowing water. The sliding valve plate comprises two circular side walls spaced apart by a circumferential wall. Cooling water enters the plate at the upper end thereof and passes around guide walls which extend completely across the cavity to a discharge point also at the upper end of the plate. Apertures in the guide plates permit the escape of any entrained gas. The guide walls are formed into spiral shapes.
