Abstract

The economiser is located at the base of a chimney which is fitted at the base with a helical vane (25) which gives the exhaust gases a turbulent flow. The fluid to be heated circulates through an inlet valve (36) and into a spiral passage (1) around the inside of the chimney. The fluid then passes through (11) to an inner spiral passage which re-directs the fluid downwards to the base of the chimney. The fluid is taken out through the outlet pipe (9). A temperature-sensing device (35) placed at the top of the chimney ensures that the cooling fluid does not prevent any up-draughts in the chimney, by regulating the flow of fluid.
