Abstract

1, 024, 432. Photographic transfer process. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Sept. 27, 1962 [Sept. 28, 1961] No. 36683/62. Heading G2C. A photographic material comprising a support and an emulsion layer containing per square foot 50-125 mgs. of silver as silver halide 25-50 mgs. of a gelatin-tanning silver halide developer and 150-250 mgs of gelatin is exposed to a two-tone subject, developed with alkali which hardens the exposed areas of gelatin, pressed into contact with an absorbent layer to transfer all the unhardened emulsion and separating the material and layer to leave an image on the layer. The material may also contain up to 30 mgs. per square foot of a non- tanning developer. Specified tanning developers are hydroquinone pyrocatechol, 3, 4-di hydroxy diphenyl, 2, 5 dihydroxy diphenyl and 2, 3 dihydroxy diphenyl. Specified non-tanning developers are p-phenylene diamine, p-aminophenol, p-methylamino sulphate, 3-pyrazolidones,4-methoxy, 1-nephthol and 8-hydroxy-1-naphthol. The support is preferably subbed with polyethylene which has been electron bombarded (see Specification 971, 058) before coating with the emulsion which may contain nethylene blue. After exposure, an alkali-solution preferably of pH from 11 to 13 is used as developer and the transfer step is preferably carried out from 100 to 150‹F.
