Abstract

1,022,682. Gas blast switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 1, 1963 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 4003/62. Heading H2B. A gas blast circuit-breaker is provided with a circular nozzle contact 11 into which gas flows during the blast action, and a frusto-conical shaped moving contact 13 having a flattened apex and a plurality of slots 16 formed into the contact between an annular contact making area and the flattened apex so that in the closed position the slots are wholely or mainly within the nozzle 12 and during an interruption gas flows along the slots to the apex of the moving contact. An arcing electrode 15 is situated in the nozzle 12. The slots 16 may lie in radial planes or be skewed.
