Abstract

1,019,248. Electrically tripped switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 5720/63. Heading H2B. An electromagnetic latch mechanism comprises a cylinder 63 movable within coil 57 and carrying two copivotal latch arms 69 which are urged apart by a torsion spring 73. The mechanism is secured to a relay casing by four legs 53. When the relay coil 19 is energized, the cylinder 63 which rests on a contact carrier 27 is urged downwards to the position shown in Fig. 3 by a spring 75 until the latch arms 69 engage the underside of a core 59 and hold the relay contacts open or closed. The armature 61 of the latch mechanism may be raised to release the latch arms electrically by energizing coil 57 or manually by inserting a screwdriver in slot 91 whereupon return springs of the relay urge the contact carrier 27 and hence the cylinder 63 upwards. The relay may be closed manually by depressing a button 67 formed on cylinder 63.
