A drafting arrangement comprises a pair of nip rolls 15,17,an apron 123 passing about one of the rolls, an apron and roll clearer and apron guide 125 disposed within the apron and a second roll clearer 127 disposed in engagement with the other roll, there being facing surfaces 125g, 127d on the elements 125, 127 between which the fibres F pass. As shown the element 125 which is formed as a block of a plastics material, wood or the substance known by the Trade Mark Micarta clears both the inside of apron 123 and the roll 15. It also has, not shown, lugs which downwardly defend either side of the belt and on the inside faces of which are depressions into which nodules on the lower element 127 may engage to join the upper and lower elements together to form a single assembly. The lower element 127 formed of the same material as block 125 clears roll 17, assists in guiding the fibre F and clears the outer surface of the belt 123; in addition an extension 127j which is a snap fit on the roll 17 prevents anticlockwise movement of the assembly under the influence of the belt 123; the extension 127j also has edge flanges which engage the sides of the boss of roll 17 and laterally locate the assembly. The nose of the block 127 (see Fig. 9) is formed with a cutaway portion 127i and a bevelled edge 127h so as to facilitate the automatic threading up of the device. The surface 125g of the apron guide which is shown straight may be convexly or concavely shaped.
