757,571. Thread testing. COOK & CO., MANCHESTER, Ltd. July 11, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1954], No. 23378/54. Addition to 701,491. Class 106 (2). In a thread testing apparatus as described and claimed in the parent Specification the vertical movements of the weight-supporting pulley 15 in accordance with variations of length in the thread-loop 13a control, through cables 20, 22 and lever 21, a tensioning device comprising a driven conical roller 18 over which the thread is fed by a yarn fork 26 positioned by a bell-crank 23, 24 attached to the cable 22, the thread being passed over a greater diameter portion of the roller 18 for greater braking effect and vice versa. The roller 18 may co-operate with a spring-loaded idler roller 19.
