Abstract

101,546. Schauffelberger, E. Sept. 22, 1915, [Convention date]. Shaft couplings; clutches, claw.-The driving and driven members of a shaft coupling are connected by a flat, sinuous, resilient band or strip. In the form of coupling shown, the members a, b, are connected by the sinuous steel band e, which engages projections d and is enclosed by a cover f. In modifications, the band e passes round pins parallel to the shaft on the two members a. b, or is rigidly attached to one member by casting or otherwise and engages projections on the other member. Oil may be placed inside the coupling to minimize friction and heating. One of the members a, b may he movable axially on its shaft to disconnect the coupling. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), stated that one of the coupling members might be movable axially on its shaft to form a clutch. This subject-matter does not appear in the complete Specification as accepted.
