Abstract

Shaped polyolefin articles of improved affinity for dyestuffs may be obtained by adding to a polyolefin, a metal-containing polyurethane, copolyurethane, polyamide or copolyamide in which the metal is of Group II, IIIb or IVa and has a colourless ion, e.g. Zn, Mg, Ca, Al or Ti. The metal may be introduced by reacting a metal salt with the starting materials or the polycondensate. In examples, the additives are derived from (1) Zn acetate, hexamethylene diamine and dimethyl isophthalate; (2) butanediol/hexamethylene diisocyanate and Zn acetate; (3) 11-aminoundecanoic acid and Zn acetate; (4) 11-aminoundecanoic acid, caprolactam and Zn acetate; (5) 11-aminoundecanoic acid and Ca acetate, and (6) 11-aminoundecanoic acid, hexamethylene diammonium adipate and Zn acetate. The articles may be dyed with disperse, mordant, basic or acid dyes. Fibres and film are specified as applications.
