Abstract

A linear polyamide is made by condensing tere- and/or iso-phthalic acid with a substantially equimolar proportion of an aliphatic diamine having between the amino groups at least six methylene groups one only of which is substituted by an ethyl group. In the examples, polyamides are made from:-(I) tere-phthaloyl chloride and 3-ethylhexamethylene diamine; (II) tere-phthalic acid and 2-ethyl hexamethylene diamine; (III) iso-phthalic acid and 3-ethyl hexamethylene diamine; (IV) and (V) a mixture of tere- and iso-phthalic acid and 2-ethylhexamethylene diamine; (VI) tere-phthalic acid and 3-ethylheptamethylene diamine; (VII) tere-phthalic acid and 4-ethyloctamethylene diamine and (VIII) iso-phthalic acid and 3-ethylheptamethylene diamine.
