[Also in Divisions D1-D2] Polyamides exhibiting enhanced affinity for basic dyestuffs and inhibited affinity for acidic dyestuffs are prepared by heating a mixture of (a) a synthetic linear polyamide having terminal amino groups or (b) the reaction components thereof, and a triazine derivative of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP> is aryl or substituted aryl; R<SP>2</SP> is or where R<SP>4</SP> is a, divalent or trivalent aromatic group or a divalent aliphatic group, R<SP>5</SP> is hydro- .gen or a monovalent aliphatic group, M is the atomic equivalent of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or manganese, n is one when R<SP>4</SP> is divalent or two when R<SP>4</SP> is trivalent, and R<SP>3</SP> is -OR<SP>1</SP>, -R<SP>2</SP> or -OH. Many triazine derivatives and conventional polyamides including those derived from lactams and amino acids are listed. The triazine derivative reacts with the amino groups via the -OR<SP>1</SP> group(s) which is (are) replaced by the amino group(s). When the triazine derivative is the sole additive it also functions as a viscosity stabilizer. The triazine derivative and a conventional diamine or diamines of the formula may be admixed, and if desired reacted to form a prepolymer, and added to the polyamidecomponent mixture, the whole being copolymerized. Conventional additives such as delustrants (e.g. TiO 2 ), pigments and antioxidants may be added The above polyamides may be used to produce yarns, fabrics, bristles, films and mouldings. The yarns may be subsequently dyed or formed into tricot fabrics using also conventional polyamides prior to crossdyeing.
