Abstract

Stable shaped articles of improved affinity for dyestuffs are obtained by melt spinning or extruding a composition of a polyolefin, a stabilizer and an anionic exchange substance which is a salt of a Group IIa IIb or IVb metal and an organic, branched chain, monocarboxylic acid. Preferred salts are those of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Cd, Zn, Sn or Pb, e.g. the Zn salts of ethyl hexoic acid, isodecanoic acid and mixed C9 to C11 branched chain fatty acids. The stabilizer may be a thiobisphenol, a dialkyl ester of a thiodialkanoic acid, a substituted phenylene diamine, a benzophenone derivative, an organophosphorus compound or an aldehyde and/or phenol condensation product, e.g. a crotonaldehyde/3 - Me - 6 - t. - Bu - phenol condensate. The shaped articles specified are fibre, filament, yarn and fabric. Specification 945,441 is referred to.
