Abstract

Polypropylene containing compositions of improved dyeability are obtained by the addition of a minor proportion of (i) a linear polyamide and not more than an equal weight of (ii) a different linear copolyamide of which 5 to 35% of the units are of formula <FORM:1014913/C3/1> in which A and B are -CO- or -NH-, and M is an alkali metal. The polypropylene may be of melt viscosity 0.1-8. Specified polyamides are: (i) polycaprolactam, polyhexamethylene adipamide, a copolyamide from hexamethylene diamine adipate and sebacate, and a copolyamide from hexamethylene diamine adipate and caprolactam; and (ii) the product derived from hexamethylene diamine m-(sodium or potassium sulpho)-isophthalate and hexamethylene diamine adipate. The compositions may be dyed with disperse, basic, acidic or metallized dyestuffs, and may be formed into yarn, fibre or film.
