Abstract

1,142,297. Polyesteramides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 Jan., 1967 [3 March, 1966], No. 9338/66. Addition to 1,115,512. Heading C3R. Fibre-forming polyamides having low affinity for acid dyes are prepared by reacting #- caprolactone with a linear polyamide in which the amide groups are separated by at least 2 carbon atoms. Polyamides specified include those derived from aminocarboxylic acids, lactams, equimolecular mixtures of diamines and dicarboxylic acids and salts of diamine and dicarboxylic acid. They may contain delustrants, photostabilizers, thermostabilizers, and M.W. regulators. Up to 10 molecules of lactone may be used per amine end-group in the polymer. The lactone may be added to solid polyamide which is then heated to above 220‹ C. Alternatively, the lactone may be added to molten polyamide. In typical Example 1, nylon 66 is prepared from hexamethylene diammonium adipate, acetic acid and water. To this is added TiO 2 and #-caprolactone.
