Abstract

1,009,888. Buildings; columns. E. J. KINGDON. May 11, 1964 [May 10, 1963], No. 18681/63. Headings E1A and E1B. A building has concrete foundations surmounted by base blocks 2, wide enough to carry a cavity wall, along two opposite sides of the building, the base blocks 2 carrying inner L-sectioned bearer blocks 3, which in turn support longitudinally reinforced columns 7 dowelled to the bearer blocks at the base and supporting roof beams 10 and edge beams 11 at the upper end, the beams 11 being attached to plates 12 secured to battens 13 bolted to the columns 7. The columns 7 have horizontal bolt holes through them in alternate mutually perpendicular directions, the holes parallel to the walls being used for attaching, e.g. window frames thereto, (Fig. 3). The inner wall course may comprise bricks or precast lightweight concrete or fibre reinforced plaster slabs, and the outer course may be of brick at the base, surmounted by blocks. The wall below the window (Fig. 3) has a plaster board inner sheet 19, an insulating layer 18, a polythene sheet 17 and a weather board facing 16. The roof trusses 14, are supported on the beams 10 and weather board 20 covers the roof ends.
