Abstract

The operating mechanism for the doors of a coke-oven battery has a movable plate 45 with slots 46 . . . 48 for receiving manually-operated levers 41 . . . 43 responsible respectively through an hydraulic system for turning a ram through 90 degrees about a vertical axis, advancing and <PICT:1005861/C4-C5/1> <PICT:1005861/C4-C5/2> retracting the ram, and lowering and raising hooks on the ram for respectively disengaging and engaging hooks on the door. The slots 46 . . . 48 have locking recesses 54 . . . 57 for the levers and the slots 46, 47 have cam surr faces 50 . . . 53 operative to cause sideways movement of the plate 45 on movement of the levers 41 . . . 43. The lever 42 is spring-centred to position "2" and each lever has three positions, position "1" corresponding to swinging the ram to face the door (for lever 41), advancing the ram (for lever 42), and disengaging the hooks (for lever 43), position "3" corresponding to the opposite movements in each case. Operation is as follows: levers 41 and 42 being in position "2," with the door disengaged and the ram retracted, and lever 43 in position "1," (see Figs. 5 to 10, not shown); Lever 41 is moved to "1," swinging the ram to face a door, and moving the plate 45 one step to the right to free lever 42 from recess 55; lever 42 moved to "1" to free lever 43 from recess 56, to advance the ram and lock lever 41 at 54; lever 42 returns automatically to "2," and lever 43 is moved to "3" to engage hooks (no movement of plate 45); lever 42 moved from "2" to "3" to retract the ram, lock lever 43 in recess 57 and unlock lever 41 from recess 54; lever 41 moved to "3" to swing ram through 90 degrees and lock lever 42 in recess 55. The sequence of operations is repeated to close the door, except that the lever 43 is moved from the recess 57 to the recess 56. Specifications 557,498, 557,502 and 611,524 are referred to.
