Abstract

1,162,415. Pressure resisting doors. W. H. MINER Inc. 11 July, 1967, No. 31863/67. Heading F2P. [Also in Division E2] The invention is for use with a wall 10 having an opening 12 and a door 14 movable into and out of the opening and then longitudinally alongside the wall, and comprises (see Figs. 1 to 5) the combination of horizontal guide means 16, 18 mounted above and below the opening, vertically extending operating means comprising a hollow shaft 20 mounted on the door and rotatable about a vertical axis, handle means 78 for rotating said shaft, upper and lower throwout arm members 26, 28, upper carriage means (pin 32, roller 34) and lower carriage means (pin 32, carriage 38, roller 40) engaging said guide means for lengthwise movement therealong and pivotally mounting the one end of said throwout arm members, shaft means 24 extending coaxially through said hollow shaft and fixedly secured at its opposite ends to the other ends of said throw-out arm members to support the door while accommodating relative movement between the door and said throw-out members as the door is moved outwardly, upper and lower keeper means 46, 48 mounted on the wall, upper and lower keeper engaging means 42, 44 fixed to said hollow shaft and engageable with said keeper means for maintaining the door within the opening, and auxiliary latch means for locking the door to one of said throw-out arm members comprising a vertical channel 60 in the throw-out arm member and latch means comprised of a vertically movable latch member 70 operatively connected to said hollow shaft by handle means 71, 72, 74) and movable into and out of locking engagement with said channel portion whereby to permit conjoint longitudinal movement of the door and said throw-out arm members along said guide means without relative movement therebetween whereby to uncover the door opening. Figs. 6 and 7 illustrate an alternative latch means wherein a latch member 100 normally rests on the face 52<SP>1</SP> of projection 50<SP>1</SP>, but drops into channel 60<SP>1</SP> when the shaft 20<SP>1</SP> is rotated. In this embodiment, the latch member 100 is not actuated by handle 71<SP>1</SP>.
