Abstract

A die block is made of a steel containing (in addition to Fe, incidental elements and impurities) C 0.25-0.8%, Si up to 1%, Mo at least 0.3%, Mn at least 0.25%, B not more ahan 0.005% (at least 0.0012% soluble) and Cr in an amount such that Mn+Cr+ 4/5 Mo+2C is between 2.5% and 3.5%. After normalizing, the block may be tempered at 600 DEG C. or 650 DEG C.
