An apparatus for dispensing identification sleeves (Fig. 1, not shown) comprises slidable members 5 housed in casing 4 and kept normally in upwards positions by springs 11, Fig. 2. Each has an aperture 54 for receiving a sleeve via tapered aperture 18 from a pack contained in tube 16 and fed forward by compressed air admitted to manifold 21. When depressed by a member to be sleeved, or by a transfer needle, aperture 54 is brought opposite blind hole 22, the end 13 of spring 12 engages below catch rail 15, and the identification sleeve may be picked off. A hole 55 relieves any excess pressure in tube 16. When all requisite keys have been depressed in this way, they may be released by tilting catch rail 15. At the same time compressed air is momentarily admitted to manifold 21 by a valve, causing any empty apertures 54 to be refilled with sleeves. The apparatus also comprises a lubricator 41 (Fig. 1, not shown) for transfer needle 7, Fig. 3, and a sleeve transfer device 40 in which a spring collet 27 mounted on a compressed air operated piston 26 can move forward and grip behind the head 71 of the needle. Subsequently, it is retracted with the needle and sleeves 8 are carried along by jaws 33 until they reach wire 9, which is in a blind hole in the end of the needle. Finally, the piston and collet are restored to their normal positions and the needle is released.
