Abstract

The signboard (1) consists of a hollow transparent panel (8), e.g. of'Plexiglass' (RTM), curved in shape with its concave side facing towards the wearer, and containing a number of transparent signs which can be reeled from one cylinder to another. The panel is held on the wearer's back by shoulder supports (4) and a waist band (5) in two sections with inflatable inner pads. The signs are in the form of a transparent strip, e.g. of PVC, which can be reeled from one roller to another inside the hollow panel by a drive with controls on the waist band. It can also contain neon lights to illuminate the signs.

DISPLAY DEVICE
PORTABLE ON A MAN'S BACK
The present invention relates to the field of display devices and more particularly those capable of being worn on the back of a man, more commonly called a sandwich man.

The known display devices are in the form of one or two flat rigid single panels on each of which is affixed a poster, and which are carried by means of straps resting on the shoulders of the user.

These devices are intended to display either a poster (presented by a panel placed on the back), or two posters (one on a panel resting on the back, the other on the stomach) without being able to replace the latter during 'use. The posters are simply put up: no means of highlighting to attract the eye of the passer-by is provided.

In addition, such devices are uncomfortable and impractical due to their weight and size. The user endorses and wears one or two large display panels for several hours. Given the location of the panels, it is not possible for him to carry an additional bag on his back or on his shoulder, allowing him to carry personal belongings, water or food.

Furthermore, these known display devices depreciate the user in the eyes of the public, the latter being likened to an object on which a glance is cast without much attention, and with which no communication is established.

Finally, the random path taken by each user is likely to lead to a grouping of these in the same sector, preventing a correct grid of a determined area.

In this context, the present invention proposes a display device capable of remedying all these drawbacks and in particular capable of increasing the number of posters presented by each device and allowing them to be changed during use.

Another object of the invention is to bring out the poster in relation to its environment.

The present invention also aims to enhance the function of a sandwich man and to facilitate his task.

Another object of the invention is to establish an interactive link between the public and the user, by enabling the latter to be able to answer questions from passers-by at any time and in any place.

Another object of the invention consists in increasing the number of users in a given area without problem of grouping them.

To this end, the display device, comprising a panel capable of allowing the presentation of an information medium and means of carrying on the back of a man said panel is characterized in that it comprises means for presenting successively at least two information carriers on the same display side of the panel
Advantageously, the device has a concave display surface, of concavity facing the user.

According to a particular embodiment, it comprises a rigid abdominal belt.

According to an advantageous embodiment, it comprises deformable means making it possible to adapt it to the size of the user and consisting of at least one inflatable air cushion provided on the face of the lap belt facing the user.

The device comprises a parallelepipedic box, one of the faces of which is transparent. A light source, such as neon tubes, is provided in the box. The information carrier is pressed against the transparent display surface of the box by spacers fixed to the box. The information medium is in the form of a film of flexible plastic material pressed against the display surface by a diffusion plate.

According to a development of the invention, the box comprises a frame, in the form of at least two rigid horizontal concave uprights and at least two vertical crosspieces, respectively parallel to one another.

The device advantageously comprises a starting reel and an incoming reel on which the information carrier is wound, arranged inside the box, free to rotate relative to their longitudinal axis and in that they are associated with rotational drive means.

According to a development of the invention, the device comprises means able to allow communication with a central source of information external to the display device.

The device comprises at least one flap fixed on the face of the box facing the wearer, so as to protect the wearer and provide additional information support.

 It is also likely to include an abdominal belt forming a container.

Gripping means allowing the user to adopt a rest position are provided. The operation of the device is also likely to be controlled using these means.

In the description which follows, the horizontal is considered to be the direction parallel to the ground and the vertical to be perpendicular thereto.

The upper term is used to designate a greater distance from the ground than the lower term, the term establishes a greater distance from the public than the frontal term, or even greater proximity to the user.

As shown in FIG. 1, the present invention relates to a display device 1, portable on a man's back 2. The device is described in the following in its position of use.

The device 1 consists of means 3 for displaying means 4 for protecting the user 2 against the weather, means 5 for storing various objects, means 6 for carrying the device as a whole; means 7 for adapting the device to the user.

The display means 3 are in the form of a rectangular box 8 intended to rest on the back of the user 2.

Two particular embodiments of the box 8 are shown in Figures 4A and 4B.

According to the embodiment of FIG. 4A, the box 8 consists of a wall 9A of vertical rectangular bottom, on one of the vertical ends of which a front panel 10A is articulated, movable in rotation about an axis
X1 (FIGS. 4A and 6) vertical collinear at said end and passing through one of the vertical ends of the front panel, as shown by arrow A in FIG. 6.

The front panel 10A consists of a wall 11A, called a rectangular front wall, the periphery of which is folded inwards perpendicular to the vertical plane passing through said front wall with the exception of the upper horizontal end, so as to form a vertical rectangular front wall 11A, two vertical upper and lower edges 12A-13A and a horizontal edge 14A. The edges of the front panel 10A are perpendicular to the plane passing through the vertical front wall 11A and their junction is curved.

The upper end of the bottom wall 9A is folded inwards perpendicularly to the latter so as to form a horizontal upper edge 15A, perpendicular to the plane passing through the bottom wall 9A. The upper edge of the bottom wall has a width identical to that of the lower horizontal edge 14A of the front panel 10A. When the front panel 10A is applied after rotation to the bottom wall 9A, the box 8 is closed by said bottom wall 9A. In the closed position, the front wall and the bottom wall are parallel.

The vertical free edge 16A of the bottom wall 9A is folded perpendicularly towards the inside, so as to come into alignment, in the closed position, with the free edge 17A of the corresponding vertical edge 12A of the front panel. Said free edge 16A of the bottom wall also has, after the fold 18A, a recess 19A parallel to the fold 18A capable of being applied against the internal face of the edge 17A of the vertical edge 12A of the front panel 10A. In this way, in the closed position, the free edge 17A of the vertical edge 12A of the front panel 10A is received in the recess 19A of the bottom wall 9A.

According to another particular embodiment shown in FIG. 4B, the box 8 consists of a front panel 10B having a vertical rectangular front wall 11B whose edge 12B, 13B, 14B, 15B, is folded inwards, in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the wall ilB, so as to form a receptacle, and a bottom wall, vertical rectangular 9B, separated from the front panel 10B forming a cover.

The periphery 16B of the bottom wall 9B is folded back on itself in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the wall 9B, to create a fold 18B capable of coming into alignment, in the closed position, with the edge 17B free from the edge 12B , 13B, 14B, 15B corresponding to the front panel. A recess 19B is produced parallel to the fold 18B. The recess 19B is intended to be fitted inside the front panel 10B to be attached to the internal face of the edge 17B of the latter. A seal of known type may be provided at the level of the recess 19B in order to seal the box 8.

In the embodiments of FIGS. 4A and 4B, the box as a whole is concave, of concavity turned towards the user, in order to wrap the back of the user and to lessen the discomfort of impacts and friction of a rectangular panel flat on the spine. In addition, the concavity of the walls, and more particularly of the front wall, offers a wider field of vision than known billboards with flat surfaces.

The dimensions of the box 8 are determined so as to reduce the size of the device 1. The device does not take up much more space than a person of average size, so as not to disturb the public during the passage of the user responsible for the device. The height of the box 8 is approximately twice its width, which corresponds substantially to the overall width of the user.

According to an example of a form of use, the height of the box is between 70 and 110 cm, the width between 40 and 100 cm, and the thickness between 5 and 10 cm. The concavity of the walls is circular, with a diameter between 40 and 50 cm.

The box is capable of taking any other type of shape.

The box 8 is made of a light material, such as aluminum, carbon or fiberglass.

The rigidity and the strength of the box are reinforced by means of an internal frame 20 shown in FIGS. 5, 7 and 8.

The frame 20 comprises two cross members 21-22 of concave parallel horizontal support, of concavity turned towards the user, joined by two uprights 23-24 of connection, vertical parallel rights.

The concavity of the horizontal support crosspieces 21-22 corresponds to that of the bottom 9 and front 11 walls of the box 8. The vertical connecting posts 23-24 are placed on either side of the Y axis of vertical central symmetry of the two support cross members 21-22.

Preferably, the connecting uprights 23-24 are arranged at a quarter and three quarters of the length of the support cross members 21-22, that is to say equidistant from the center and respectively of the ends of the support cross members, for a symmetry, balance and optimal load distribution.

In the embodiment of FIG. 4A, the internal frame 20 is fixed to the box 8 by the cross member 21 of upper support associated with the horizontal edge 15A of the bottom wall 9 and by the cross member 22 of lower support associated with two tabs 25-26 of the support provided on the bottom wall 9.

The legs 25-26 (rectangular parallelepiped shape) are fixed at the lower end of the internal face of the bottom wall 9, perpendicular to the plane passing through it, on the side opposite the user, towards the inside the box.

The support legs 25-26 are arranged substantially equidistant from the center and respectively from the ends of the bottom wall 9, so that they are in the vertical continuity of the uprights 23-24 for connecting the frame 20 when that -this is placed on the support legs 25-26.

The width of the legs 25-26 is identical to that of the connecting uprights 23-24 as shown in FIG. 7.

In the embodiment of FIG. 4B, the internal frame 20 is fixed to the bottom wall 9B by screwing. The screws are permanently fixed to the uprights 23-24 of the internal frame 20. The frame 20 provided with screws is likely to be associated with the bottom wall 9B provided with complementary means located in positions corresponding to the screws of the frame.

In the embodiments of FIGS. 4A and 4B, the frame 20 is associated with the box 8, so that in the closed position thereof, there remains a space 27 between the frame 20 and respectively the front wall 10 and the bottom wall 9 of the box 8.

The vertical connecting uprights 23-24 have a length substantially identical to the height of the box 8 and the support cross members 21-22 a length substantially identical to the length of the horizontal edges 14-15 thereof.

The crosspieces 21-22 and the uprights 23-24 are, as shown in FIG. 5, of parallelepiped shape.

The ends 28-31 of the support crosspieces 21-22 are cylindrical in shape with a vertical axis.

Each end 28-31 of the support cross members 21-22 is provided with a removable blocking means 32 (FIGS. 7 and 8) obtained by making a parallelepipedal recess 33 formed at the cylindrical end of the cross members 21 -22 of support, so as to form two branches 34-35.

The interior of the recess 33 is turned in a direction substantially opposite to the concavity of the support cross members 21-22 or more precisely, when the frame 20 is associated with the bottom wall 9 of the box 8 in the closed position,
The interior of the recess 33 faces the vertical fold of the front panel 10, namely the connection between the bottom wall 9 ′ and the vertical edges 12-13 of the front panel 10. The recess 33 does not cross the cylindrical end of the support cross members 21-22 right through, so as to form a sole 36. The sole 36 is disposed below the locking means 32 for the lower support cross member 22 (Figure 8) and above it for the cross member 21 of upper support.

The frame 20 is composed of a rigid rigid material preferably, such as aluminum, carbon or fiberglass.

The information carriers, generally in the form of posters, capable of being introduced into the box 8 are abutted and joined to each other in a juxtaposed manner. At each free end of the strip 37 of posters thus produced, a primer 38 is provided (FIG. 7). The strip 37 is wound on a reel 39A, called, by convention, starting reel, with a notch 40 capable of pinching one of the extreme primers 38 of the strip 37 of posters. Two coils, a starting coil 39A and an incoming coil 39B, are introduced into the box. The information medium takes place from the starting coil 39A, to be wound on the incoming coil 39B. The installation and operation of the coils will be described in more detail below.

The coils 39 (39A and 39B), of cylindrical shape, comprise at each of their ends spikes 41 of axis Z collinear with the central longitudinal axis of the coil 39. The spikes 41 have a shape and a dimension such that they are capable of being inserted into the blocking means 32 of the cross members 21-22 for supporting the frame 20. They are of rectangular shape and of dimension corresponding to that of the recess 33 of the blocking means 32 of the cross members 21 -22 for supporting the armature 20. The pins 41 are free to rotate about their central vertical axis Z relative to the coil 39.

In this way, when the pins 41 are introduced into the blocking means 32 of the armature 20 and immobilized in rotation, taking into account the respective parallelepiped shape of the pins 41 and the recess 33 of the blocking means 32, the coil 39 is free to rotate about the Z axis.

The height of the coil 39 is substantially less than that of the connecting uprights 23-24. The height of the strip 37 of posters is greater than the height of the reel 39 and substantially identical to the height of the uprights 23-24 of connection. The strip 37 of posters protrudes on either side of the reel 39.

Horizontal intermediate spaces are provided between the poster itself and the horizontal end of the strip 37 to protect said poster from possible deformation when handling the reel 39.

The pins 41 of the coil 39 are blocked in the bottom of the recess 33 of the locking means 32 of the frame 20 by means of a stop 43 provided inside said recess 33 and projecting with respect to the internal surface of it (Figures 7 and 8).

A cavity 44 is formed inside one of the branches 34-35 of the locking means 32, with a horizontal axis perpendicular to the vertical plane of the internal face of one of the branches and the opening of which is arranged at the inside the recess 33.

The stop 43 is installed in said cavity 44 on spring 45, so that it projects relative to the internal surface of the branch of the corresponding locking means 32 when the spring is relaxed.

According to another embodiment, not shown, two stops 43 are provided opposite one another in each of the two branches 34 and 35.

The respectively hemispherical shapes of the stop 43 and cylindrical of the cavity 44 make it possible to soften the contact with the spike 41 of the coils 39, during the introduction and removal of the latter from the locking means 32 and thus avoid the deteriorate.

When the coil 39 is introduced into the locking means 32, the user exerts a force allowing the compression of the spring 45, the penetration of the stop 43 in the cavity 44 and the passage of the pin 41 so that it reaches the bottom of the recess 33. The immobilization of the coil 39 is obtained when the pin 41 having reached the bottom of the recess 33, the hemispherical stop 43 pushed by the compressed spring 45 can return to its rest position and prevent the displacement of said pin 41 towards the outside of the recess 33.

The space 42 preserved between the frame 20 and respectively the front and bottom walls 10 of the box 8 mentioned above, allows the coil 39 to be inserted on which a strip 37 of posters is wound in the frame 20, without that it does not rub on said walls.

Similarly, as shown in FIGS. 2, 3, 6 and 7, the folding of the edges 12 to 15 relative to the front wall 11 of the front panel 10, or relative to the bottom wall 9 according to the embodiments of Figure 4A or 4B is curved for the same purpose.

Means 4 for protecting the user 2 against bad weather or external aggressions such as rain, splashes, gravel projections, are provided. They are in the form of at least one sealed protective flap 46, fixed removably by any type of known means, such as clipping, pinching,. to the external face of the bottom wall 9 of the box 8.

The protective flap 46 covers the upper body of the user 2 from the shoulders to the waist. It is curved to follow the lines of the user's silhouette. Several types of flaps are likely to be provided depending on the size of the user and the preferences of the latter. A one size panel can also be designed.

In the particular embodiment of Figure i, the flap 46 is made in one piece.

FIG. 2 represents the means 4 of protection in two sections 47-48 joining to juxtapose on the front of the body of the user.

The flap 46 may be rigid or made of a flexible material.

The protection means 4 can take any other type of form and can also serve as an advertising medium by printing, sticking closets, on the flap or flaps 46.

As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 and 6, an open abdominal belt 49 is provided in the form of two arches 49A and 49B, of rigid material, articulated in rotation relative to the bottom wall 9 of the box around an axis X1
X2 vertical passing respectively through one of the vertical ends of each arch 49A-49B closest to the bottom wall 9 and the vertical end of said corresponding wall 9.

The hoops 49A-49B are associated with temporary locking means, of known type and not shown, in the closed position, position in which the free end of each hoop is as close as possible to the free end of the other hoop .

According to an embodiment not shown, the abdominal belt 49 is provided in the form of a single arch of rigid material, articulated in rotation relative to the bottom wall 9 of the box, around a vertical axis passing through the one of the vertical ends of the belt 49 closest to the bottom wall 9 and one of the vertical ends of said wall. For example, the belt is articulated around the vertical axis X1 of articulation of the front panel 10 around the bottom wall 9 of the box 8. The free end of the belt 49 is associated with means for temporarily closing the bottom wall 9, of known type and not shown.

The arch (s) constituting the belt 49 is (are) constituted (s) of a curved block with rectangular section, of concavity (in the closed position, represented in FIG. 6) directed in a direction opposite to that of the concavity of the walls of the box 8.

The arch (s) is (are) concave (s) so that it (s) is (s) t (s) on the same semicircle when viewed from above (Figure 6). The concavity is between 15 and 25 cm in diameter. The rectangular parallelepiped shape of the arch (s) (x) offers a flat horizontal upper surface of support and practical support for the user.

In addition, the arch (s) forming the belt 49 is (are) hollow, the upper face 50 is capable of being easily removed or also mounted articulated in rotation, to allow access to the interior thereof. Or the hoops of the belt 49 is (are) of sufficient volume to contain food, drinks or various objects such as a map of the area where the user moves.

The arch (s) of the belt 49 has (s), for example, a height of about 10 to 20 cm and is (are) placed (s) about 10 to 15 cm vertically from the lower end of the wall 9 background. Its or their upper face 50 a support surface of width between 5 and 10 cm.

The belt 49 also has the function of providing a counterweight to the front of the user, to the box 8 placed at the rear of the latter, to balance the device i and to distribute the weight evenly to the front and rear of user 2.

Another function likely to be offered by the belt 49 is described below.

The display device 1 according to the invention also comprises means 6 for carrying and adapting it 7 to the user 2.

The carrying means 6 consist, as shown in Figure 2, of straps 51 whose ends are fixed by any type of known means 4, respectively at levels close to the lower and upper ends of the outer face of the wall 9 of background (Figure 2). The shoulder straps 51 are adjustable in length and protected by the protection means 4 mentioned above.

Preferably, the straps 51 are fixed by screwing to the bottom wall 9 and more precisely at the level of the fixing of the frame 20 to the latter. In this way, the previously described screwing system allows the cumulative fixing of the frame 20 on the bottom wall 9 and of the straps 51 on the latter, which avoids drilling the bottom wall 9 in several places.

The spacing between the uprights 23-24 of the frame 20 corresponds in this case to the desired spacing between the straps 51.

Means 7 for adapting the device to the user are provided and consist of an airbag system arranged along the abdominal belt 49. The cushion (s), respectively according to the embodiment of the belt in one or two hoops, is (are) inflated (s) until it (s) bears (s) against the belly of the user. The movements of the device are thus damped and the device stabilized.

The following describes the means for successively presenting two information carriers on the same display face.

The coil 39A, on which a strip 37 of posters is wound is fixed to one end of the frame 20 parallel to the connecting uprights 23-24, an empty coil 39B being disposed at the other end.

The vertical end 38 of the poster strip 37 is pulled to be inserted into the notch of the empty reel 39. The first poster is, in this way, stretched between the two reels 39.

The front wall is transparent to allow viewing of said first poster. The start 39A and end 39B coils are rotated relative to their longitudinal central vertical axis Z, mechanically by a toothed pulley system, by means of a motor contained inside the shaft of the coils. Batteries delivering the electrical energy necessary for operation are placed inside the abdominal belt 49. A switch for switching on and off the drive is placed inside the box 8, in the form of a press button.

A timer may also be provided for setting up and setting the downtime between each poster presented.

Vertical dividers separate one poster from the next on the strip. Markers, such as bar codes, are provided at each of these intermediate spaces. A reader, of the barcode reader type, is fixed in the box, in a position such that it is capable of reading the mark as it passes in front of it, when the posters are scrolled. The mark can, for example, be arranged at the lower end of the intermediate spaces and the reader at the level of the tabs 25-26 for supporting the bottom wall 9.

Means 4 for enhancing the poster attract the eye of people entering the device's field of vision. They consist of lighting the poster with a light source such as neon lamps 52 (Figure 7).

The neon lamps 52, of identical length to the uprights 23-24 for connecting the frame 20, are capable of being hooked to these in parallel with said uprights by means provided for this purpose (FIG. 7) of the type known.

The strip 37 of posters is formed by a film of plastic material, such as PVC, on which is applied a plate 53 for diffusing the light from the light source 52.

The strip 37 of posters is pressed against the front wall 11 partially transparent by the plate 53 of concave diffusion, of concavity identical to that of said poster by spacers 54 fixed to the uprights 23-24 of connection. The spacers 54 have a parallelepiped shape of semi-cylindrical end, so that they do not damage the diffusion plate, when the box 8 is in the closed position.

According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the diffusion plate 53 is fixed to the spacers of the connecting uprights 23-24. The spacers are regularly spaced thereon.

In the particular embodiment of FIG. 5, there are seven of them per connecting post and are spaced about 12 cm apart from each other.

Any other shape and number of spacers are capable of being produced, so that they retain without damaging the diffusion plate 53 against the strip 37 of posters on the front wall 11. The spacers are capable, for example, of being fixed directly to the box or of assuming a semi-cylindrical or hemispherical shape.

The front wall 11 is transparent on a surface at least equal to that of the posters presented: it is, for example, glazed or composed of material known by the name of the registered trademark PLEXIGLAS.

The device according to the invention is capable of being connected to a centralized system of known GPS type. Said system makes it possible to display and monitor on a screen the position of said device and of the user in the place in which it is located, and to correctly grid the area concerned.

In addition, the device is also connected by suitable transmission means to an information source such as a database. The transmission means can, for example, consist of a telephone set placed in the abdominal belt.

In this way, the user of the device is likely to inform anyone about any type of information, such as an address, a cinema, an exhibition,. and allows the user to communicate with people in his environment.

The advertising message it tries to transmit is therefore also humanized and the public is more receptive.

As shown in the particular embodiment of Figure 1, means 55 for gripping and / or control are likely to be provided.

The gripping / control means consist of two spheres 56-57, linked respectively to each of the free ends of the arches 49A-49B constituting the abdominal belt 49 by rigid curved rods 58-59. The rods have a shape such that they position the spheres in a suitable way to allow the user to grasp them and to be able to lean on them.

They allow the user to adopt an attitude of rest.

They also facilitate the movement in rotation according to arrows B and C (FIG. 6) of each hoop 49A-49B.

Finally, they are capable of serving as control members for the operation of the device: for this purpose, they can for example have press buttons on their surface or be articulated to be maneuverable and form a lever.

The display device operates as follows.

The box 8 is open and the frame 20 fixed to the support legs 25-26 and to the upper horizontal edge 15A of the bottom wall 9A (FIG. 4A) or directly to the bottom wall 9B (FIG. 4B). The diffusion plate 53 is associated with the spacers 54 of the frame 20. The starting coil 39A (FIG. 5) on which the strip 37 of posters is wound, is placed and immobilized inside the locking means 32 of the cross members 21-22 for supporting the armature 20, as well as an empty coil 39B at the other end of the latter. The user grasps the leader 38 of the strip 37 of posters, pulls it, to wedge it in the notch 40 of the empty reel 39B, then closes the box 8. The spacers 54 allow the plate 53 to be pressed diffusion on the first poster against the transparent front wall 11. The user then introduces his arms into the suspenders 51 to place them on his shoulders and positions the box 8 on his back, the abdominal belt 49 being open. It then closes it by rotation of the arches 49A-49B around their respective axis X1-X2 of articulation (or the single arch around its axis X1 of articulation) and inflates the cushion (s) air until he (s) wraps the bottom of his chest. Automatic inflation is likely to be expected. The protection means 4 are then hooked onto the bottom wall 9 by clipping.

The user is ready to present the device to the public. It starts scrolling the posters by the button provided for this purpose. The posters scroll against the transparent front wall 11, in this case glazed, in back-and-forth sequences or in a unidirectional manner, by winding from one reel to the other.

The neon light source 52 illuminates the poster via the diffusion plate 53.
