Abstract

Procédé de fabrication d'une fibre optique à mode unique et à faibles pertes. Le procédé de fabrication d'une fibre optique à mode unique et à faibles pertes comportant une âme en forme d'ellipse consiste à soumettre un substrat revêtu à couches multiples formant au moins une couche barrière, une couche d'habillage et une couche constituant l'âme à un écrasement partiel d'abord sur un côté, puis sur un autre côté, de façon à obtenir un produit intermédiaire dont au moins l'âme a une section sensiblement en forme d'ellipse. Cette opération est suivie de l'écrasement de la structure composite pour constituer une préforme de fibre optique cylindrique comportant une âme elliptique qui est alors chauffée et étirée pour donner une fibre optique à mode unique comportant une âme elliptique. Application à la fabrication des fibres optiques.
